The aim of the various treatments is to restore or improve the patient’s
well-being and quality of life at both the physical and emotional level. Any form of treatment needs
to be recommended, considered and carefully defined. Thus, for example, a suspected recurrence of an
endometriosis cyst in an ovary or even in both ovaries is not necessarily an indication for surgery.
Treatment is only necessary if these cysts are causing problems or if the patient currently wants to
have a baby. Insofar as retrograde menstruation plays an
important role in the development and persistence of endometriosis, pharmacological suppression of periods,
for example by taking the pill continuously, can often improve a patient’s well-being very effectively. |
